Oksana Kamenetskaya is an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) member and certificate holder, as well as New York State-licensed, bilingual Speech and Language Pathologist/Therapist. She holds a New York State Teacher License for students with speech and language disabilities (TSSLD).
Oksana has gained a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Communication Disorders from the St. John's University, N.Y. in 2009. Also, Oksana's passion in the field of psychology and pediatric development, inspired her to attain a minor degree in Child's Psychology.
Following the graduation, Oksana has been working with children in schools and learning centers, as well as adults in medical rehabilitation centers. Also, Oksana had been providing early intervention home therapy to young children (birth-3 years), through the New York State Early Intervention Program. Afterwards, she had worked as a Head of a speech-language pathology department in one of the leading developmental centers in Qatar for several years.
Oksana's professional experience involves consistent collaboration with multidisciplinary team members, including: psychologists, doctors, nutritionists, teachers, as well as occupational therapists, physical therapists and other allied healthcare professionals. Through this collaboration, Oksana has acquired extensive practical knowledge and she continues to constantly develop her professional skills by attending evidence based international workshops and trainings. This multifaceted scope of practice enables Oksana to assess and analyse a child through different lenses, and carefully design individualized intervention program that best matches a child's and his family's needs and functional priorities.
While providing intervention, Oksana implements and combines evidence based innovative and time-proven treatment techniques and learning approaches, such as: PROMPT, oral-motor therapy, principles of behavior management (ABA), sensory integration, elements of music therapy, TEACCH program, PECS and other augmentative and alternative communication approaches (AAC). While coaching and supporting families and caregivers, Oksana employs DIRFloortime and Hanen Program methodologies, as well as other techniques.
Besides extensive expertise in communication and cognitive development, Oksana is trained and highly experienced in treating various feeding/swallowing disorders.
Oksana closely collaborates with families, and considers them an integral part of the intervention. Oksana chooses the most effective techniques that reflect a child's family's cultural norms and beliefs, as well as considers their functional priorities. Oksana strongly believes that family support and coaching ensure the most wholesome approach to intervention, and greatly enhance a child's therapy outcomes.
Oksana is very passionate about helping children with developmental delays reaching their full potential of living happy and productive lives, despite their limitations and special needs.
